By ANABAA, sire of GOLDIKOVA now the winner of 10 GROUP 1"s! (Guy Walter) | Yearling | ANABAA-Swinging Babe (ENCOSTA DE LAGO ) g | Burnewang North |
The late ANABAA was a quality stallion. Any sire capable of producing 75 STAKESWINNERS has what it takes and this year is the last chance to buy his stock. As they say about the final crop of the deceased…..they’re not making them anymore! The likes of YELL, VIRAGE DE FORTUNE, HEADTURNER and from this season BLACK TYPE winners such as COURT, BE POSITIVE, AVENUE, CORSAIRE and Guy’s Keith Nolan victor SLAPSTICK are testimony to a celebrated career. At the recent Melbourne Premier Sales we managed to snare a bargain priced son of ANABAA (see attached pedigree). He’s the first foal of the hardy ENCOSTA DE LAGO mare Swinging Babe who amassed over 255k from 7 wins and 14 placings in 62sts. To give you an idea of this mare’s durability she began her career with a 2nd down the straight in a 1000M STAKES RACE at FLEMINGTON as a FEB 2yo and finished it with a 3rd over 2040m at MOONEE VALLEY as a JUN 6yo!!! Sandwiched in between she won at SANDOWN, FLEMINGTON and the TERANG Cup amongst other victories from 1100m-2150m. ENCOSTA DE LAGO has been a sensational sire and his broodmares are already carving out a great name as well. Indeed, the ENCOSTA DE LAGO cross with ANABAA has been tried just once for the perfect record….the STAKESWINNING gelding STOKEHOUSE whose 4 wins have yielded 300k. That statistic alone made this horse very appealing but the horse in the flesh is a striking specimen (see attached photos). An outstanding, masculine head sits aloft a formidable physique. Strong and athletic he boasts a robust shoulder and hindquarter with clear X-rays. Such was his precocity, we undertook to geld the horse as soon as he arrived back at Redbank to enjoy some R & R after the sales. He"s since been broken in by Fiona Mylan at Cobbitty Lodge and had a stint at Guy"s Warwick Farm stables. Despite being purchased in Vic he’s BOBS eligible and Guy is looking forward to training him. There are 3 price options that include insurance to OCT 1, veterinary inspections, floating from Melb, Golden/Slipper Nomination, BOBS entry etc 20% 13.2k plus GST 10% 6.6k plus GST 5% 3.3k plus GST |

Like SKATEBOARD this STARCRAFT is out of a young FLYING SPUR mare (Guy Walter) | Yearling | STARCRAFT-Sassy Soda (FLYING SPUR) g | Attunga Stud |
STARCRAFT was a rare horse, classy and versatile with the exceptional capacity to both train on as a 5yo stallion and travel to win GROUP ONES on either side of the world. He was also one of those chosen few able to win 50% of his races by career’s end. More of a miler than anything else he still won a fast run AJC DERBY 2400M and ran 3rd in a COX PLATE. All up his scoresheet read 11 wins (inc 5 GROUP ONES in Aust, NZ, France & England), and 7 placings for a yield of over $3m.
A big brute of an animal who didn’t’ win as a juvenile, he was not expected to produce 2yo types but remarkably in his freshman season, he’s tossed up a BLUE DIAMOND winner in STAR WITNESS. He’s only had a small number attend the races and already 9 have won. One can only speculate on what they’ll do as 3yo’s but bookies would be framing a very tight market about them kicking goals!
So was pretty partial to his progeny at this year’s sales….as were plenty of others! Hence the average price for his 58 yearlings sold was 116k (86k median price) and it wasn’t until EASTER than I found one at the right price. A big, robust fella, the 3rd foal out of the FLYING SPUR mare Sassy Soda, this horse caught my eye from the first inspection. Like his Dad he boasts a whopping behind coupled with a powerful forequarter (see attached photo). A great length of rein rounds out his physical profile.
His distaff side is very impressive. FLYING SPUR mares are on fire (SEBRING, HEADWAY, GRAND JOURNEY, MILITARY ROSE and the STAKESWINING pair in Brisbane DEVOIR and BORDER REBEL). And of course our recent impressive winner, SKATEBOARD is out of a young FLYING SPUR mare. Plus his 2nd and 3rd dams are by major broodmare sire influences STAR WATCH & the gifted Kiwi ZEPHYR BAY. Sassy Soda is also a half sister to the very good mare CAMENA and has already thrown an impressive winner in the MOSSMAN gelding Callandersnitemare.
This bloke has broken in a treat, had some orientation at Guy"s Warwick Farm stables and will soon be ready for a rest at Redbank North. He has also been gelded. There are 3 price options which include insurance until OCT, floating, Vet inspections, scoping, Golden Slipper/Rose nomination etc.

Like STARSTPANGLED BANNER, this filly is by CHOISIR (Guy Walter) | Yearling | CHOISIR-Cubicle (SCENIC) | Balcrest Stud |
2010 was my seventh trip to the Adelaide Sales. Over the years some of our best horses have emerged from that sale….LYNCEAN ACADEMY, MR INCREDIBLE and GO CART for example. And naturally there’ve been a few duds. Indeed in the last two years we haven’t bought at all and returned empty handed however, this time think we’ve identified something pretty special….an eye-catching ¾ sister to GO CART. GO CART was a very good performer for PROVEN TS. A winner of 5 (4 in town) he was a consistent galloper over several seasons and gave us all some thrills. He was bred at Balcrest Stud where owner John Haigh believes in giving his mares every second year off. Cubicle, GO CART’S mum, has therefore had only 3 foals since….an ordinary colt by ALANNAN who won a race in Vic before being sold to Hong Kong and a BLEVIC gelding, who also had physical flaws. By far the most impressive is her latest and ONLY filly, a big strapping type by CHOISIR making her a ¾ sister to GO CART (CHOISIR is by DANEHILL DANCER). GO CART was a handsome individual, more elegant than his sister. But this filly just oozes raw power and has tremendous presence. Big and strong with a massive girth that segues into a vast and muscular hindquarter. Yet she carries herself like a real athlete, loose and free at the walk. CHOISIR was a quality racehorse who pioneered international competition in the major British sprints for colonial gallopers. Then with Flemington and Royal Ascot GROUP ONE’S behind him, the giant chestnut turned his hand to breeding. And hasn’t he done the job!!! STARSPANGLED BANNER, a ROYAL ASCOT winner this year, is one of 11 stakeswinners in just 5 crops of racing age that includes SACRED CHOICE, MESSENGER, HURRIED CHOICE, CHAMPAGNEHARMONY, DREAMSCAPE, GOLD WATER and PSYCHOLOGIST. This filly broke in very well at Cobbitty Lodge and is in preparatory work again. There are 3 price options which include insurance until OCT, floating, Vet inspections, scoping, BOBS, BOBS Extra, Golden Slipper/Rose nomination etc. 20% 24k plus GST 10% 12k plus GST 5% 6k plus GST |

QTIS 600 FALVELON filly chasing $15.3m in bonuses(Steve O"Dea) | Yearling | FALVELON-Four Seasons (STRAVINSKY) | Glenlogan Park |
Have known for a while that Qld racing offers a very attractive return for the quality of horse you’re asked to compete against and the reduced cost of training fees. That’s why we’ve sent older horses like LYNCEAN ACADEMY, GURU, FIGASAURUS & BEAUTIFUL DAY to be prepared by emerging young trainer Steve O’Dea at Eagle Farm. BEAUTIFUL DAY won two up there before being on sold, GURU’S been placed on a Saturday from 2 starts, as has FIGASAURUS and LYNCEAN ACADEMY was 4th in a GROUP 3 from just a trio of outings. But when Steve told me how much his good filly Bianca Jewel had won from QTIS 600 bonuses I nearly dropped the phone!!! In 7 starts this girl has earned almost 400k from three Saturday wins in Brisbane plus a 2nd (40k) in a QTIS 600 Bonus Race on the Gold Coast. Blimey, AL DHAFRA has won only 235k more and he’s a LISTED winner and GROUP 2 placed down here (7 sts 5-1-0)!!!
Read on ...
So it didn’t take long to figure out we needed to buy a precocious yearling to specifically target the $15.82m up for grabs in the 2010 QTIS 600 Bonuses for 2 & 3yo’s. At the QTIS 600 Sale in March we found a beautiful filly by FALVELON, the second foal from the winning STRAVINSKY mare, Four Seasons. What attracted us was not only her sturdy physique and beautiful head (see photo) but the fact that she looked far more like her grandfather STRAVINSKY, a tremendous sire of quality fillies like STAKES winners SERENADE ROSE, HIPS DON’T LIE, PURE HARMONY, BALLET SOCIETY, BIRD OF FIRE, ROYAL ASSCHER etc. And FALVELON is running hot including the recent LISTED GAI WATERHOUSE CLASSIC victor, KRYPTELON! His 70 odd winners this season also include the classy performer WALKING OR DANCING. Interestingly this filly represents the first nick of FALVELON and STRAVINSKY plus the second dam is a 3 time victor by the great DANEHILL, who represents “gold” in a pedigree. In short this filly is eligible for 110 Metro QTIS races, 425 Provincial events and as part of the QTIS 600 SALE she’s also automatically qualified for the $4.95million MAGIC MILLIONS race series at no charge. Plus, unlike the BOBS Scheme in NSW some of the QTIS 600 races pay bonuses right down to 5th.This filly was given the thumbs up from our vet and has broken in well at Kolora Lodge in Qld. She’ll soon be heading back to Steve O’Dea’s Eagle Farm stables following a short spell. There are 3 very attractive price options which include insurance until OCT, floating, Vet inspections, scoping etc. If you have any interest or queries please contact us. 20% 8.8k plus GST 10% 4.4k plus GST 5% 2.2k plus GST
